If all you have guiding you is the Perseus myth when
going against Medusas, you're screwed. Or so insists Ian Sturrock, co-author of the Conan RPG and developer/author of
the Hyborian Tales LARP.
Continuing the Mongoose tradition of providing quality d20 resources, The Slayer's
Guide to Medusas gives us a fresh take on a monstrous race and provides everything you need to fully integrate these ophidian
perils into your campaign.
Medusa was, in myth, a mermaid (Gorgon) who was cursed - along with her sisters- by
Athena for profaning the goddess' temple. Medusa was seduced by Poseidon and unwisely gave herself to her liege on Athena's
altar. This was but one small incident in the ongoing feud between these deities, but for the Gorgon sisters it was a major
tragedy.
In this Slayer's Guide, Medusas are a race of 'deceptive and horrific predators'. They are
well organized and masters of disguise. Medusas congragate in coveys, maintain several lairs and thrive on the corruption
of lesser races.
Everything you need to create a truly unique monstrous PC or NPC is provided, including new combat
styles, Prestige Classes and Feats. The Way of Serpents, which calls Medusas attuned to their reptillian heritage, provides
additional options (and complications) when integrating Medusas into your world.
Nine scenario hooks and ideas
are provided, as well as Sfiney's Gang: a mini adventure worthy of its own myth.
