Hercules has adventured widely and well in
the Marvel Universe and has belonged to a handful of modern superhero teams over the years, most notably the mighty Avengers.
Back in the mid-1970s he played a prominent
role in a Los Angeles based group, the Champions. The Champions teamed the son of Zeus with Angel, Black Widow, Darkstar,
Ghost Rider and Iceman - an unlikely bunch of heroes. They had many over the top adventures together during their 17
issue run which often spilled into other Marvel titles.
The Champions Classic Volumes I and II gather
together many of these action packed adventures of Hercules and his strange team mates. The Champions series is reprinted
with most, but alas not all, of the crossovers. It was great to revisit tales that I first read in my youth, and so fondly
remembered.
