Darkness Before Dawn V

Doors to Otherwhen

"Know O Prince, that the perilous times of which I now tell drew the attention of powerful gods and demons as well as mighty monsters and men. Intelligences from beyond our plane of existence descended upon this earth to help those who best served their hidden agendas and to thwart those who did not."

Chapter I: The Wrath of Wrath-Amon

The Geomancer launches an attack against the Dark Lord and Prin Cess when they meet with their father Wrath-Amon. Both children of the Serpent Lord prove their mettle and the Geomancer is both defeated and destroyed. Snupi seems to have adjusted to her life as a transformed Serpent Warrior, Racoria still harbors misgivings. Wrath-Amon recruits them for a quest to recover his Set-blessed Armor from Ram-Amon and his Ring of Power from Mesmira.

Chapter II: The War of Serpents

The Scholar of Swords and Heru, en route to Xanthus, are attacked by Busiris and his minions. Demons, animated skeletons and ghosts harry the heroes relentlessly. Help arrives in the form of a Gallifreyan Time Lord, her odd assistant and the serpentine minions of Wrath-Amon. Busiris and his minions flee the combined assault.  A wizard-war rages in the southlands as the most powerful Setites vie to be the chief servant and prophet of their god Set. Wrath-Amon seems willing to form temporary alliances with enemies who can help him eliminate his rivals.

Chapter III: When Paths Collide

The children of Wrath-Amon are sent to a hidden Nest of Serpents in Stygia with an ultimatum: join us or die. Alas the paths of Macadamia the Time Lord, the vampire Severn Cross and the Scholar of Swords also converge in this location and chaos ensues. The fast thinking of Skulkur saves the Dark Lord and Prin Cess, but Snupi and Phoksi are lost to them. The Nest has been destroyed and its Naga-seer S'harth now serves the cause of Wrath-Amon's foes. Macadamia rescues Conan from his long swim after defeating Graven (see below) and returns him to his stronghold on the Pictish Coast.

Chapter IV: Freeing Mesmira

When the Dark Lord and Prin Cess return to Wrath Amon's nest they find Snupi already there and with no memory of her stint with the Time Lord. Racoria, Snupi and the children of Wrath-Amon are dispatched to the lair of Thoth-Amon's Naga-seer to free Mesmira from her prison and discover what happened to his Ring of Power.  They are captured and held hostage by Bayu. Skulkur rescues the children of his Master yet again. Snupi and Racoria defect and Teh Atht removes their snake demons. Mesmira, who is dying, helps the defenders repel Skulkur's forces and is freed from captivity.

Chapter V: Serpents from Beyond

The Scholar of Swords and Heru find Tutankhamun on their return from Xanthus. They bring him to their outpost, formerly the lair of Thoth-Amon's Naga seer. Bayu informs them of the recent attack and new security measures are established. Mesmira and S'harth are recognized as part of the team. It is discovered that Tutankhamun and Heru are possessed by Goa'uld, Serpents from Beyond, and that the Goa'uld are using the Setite religion for their own ends. In an effort to maintain the integrity of a corrupted time-line Macadamia negotiates a treaty with the Goa'uld. A meeting is arranged with the First Prime of the Apis Bulls. The consciousness of Ra now possesses Heru and Tutankhamun controls the Apis Bulls as their priestly link to the Gods.

Meanwhile, on the Atlantean Ocean...

On Balmoria, a small uncharted island, Conan is captured and imprisoned by the dark wizard Graven.

Conan escapes his prison tomb by defeating Spirit Warriors, fierce Guardians and a statue of living stone. Having been long abandoned by his shipmates, he builds a raft and makes towards Thuria's Western Shore.

On the coast of Zingara he infiltrates the camp and fortress of rival Corsairs. He meets A'Kanna, who has vowed to destroy Graven for exterminating her people. Conan can relate. Pledging himself to A'Kanna's cause he sinks the Corsair vessel and accompanies her on her quest.

He learns that Graven has been unleashing the Black Death and wiping out entire populations.

Their journey takes them to Stygia, Kush and deep into the Black Kingdoms. The many perils they encounter in the South culminate in a deadly confrontation with the giant Bone Cleaver and Chimera, Stygia's self-styled Sorceress Queen.

Onwards to Argos, where the Black Death has been unleashed and civil war has broken out! Conan battles warriors and wyverns and aquires a new ship and crew. Alas, the good ship Steadrom is soon attacked by a giant squid and sea zombies. Having defeated these, Conan faces Bone Cleaver again.

Then it's back to Balmoria for some hard earned vengeance. Conan mourns the lost A'Kanna, but her fight has long since become his and he will see it through to the bitter end.

The battle between Conan and Graven is epic, and the Hyborian Age's premiere mage-killer ultimately triumphs with the timely help of A'Kanna's spirit and the multitudes of spirits Graven has betrayed.

Once again alone, shipless and swimming for dear life, Conan heads toward the Western Coast of the Thurian continent.
