Conan sits on the throne of Aquilonia, and his royal mind
is occupied by matters of great import to his reign.
Each of Conan's trusty advisors, such as Publius, who has
employed you, has wide discretionary powers in their particular sphere of influence. Though they inform and advise the King
on matters of import to the bigger picture, generally they handle the smaller details themselves... preferably before these
minor annoyances balloon into national crises.
One of Conan's most controversial reforms has been to uphold
the peoples' right to religious freedom. The Mitrans, who enjoyed the status of state cult under the reign of Numedides and
his predecessors, are not happy with the usurper's... ahem, new King's liberal policy. Though many grumble, or applaud the
polemic ditties of mad minstrels, a few choose to take action. Harsh but necessary action.
In reality, Mitra still rules supreme in Aquilonia, despite
the King's ties to the cultus of Crom and the occasional outbreak of heathen Bori worship in Gunderland. Even the Asurans,
who the Mitrans despise, are too few in number to pose any significant threat. In the mind of the Mitran clergy,
however, any gods outside of Mitra's mythos are devils... and devil worship is evil.
Do the means ever justify the ends?
The Brotherhood of the Bull, whose faction survived to (at
least) the fall of Rome millenia later, is especially concerned about the effects of exposure to foreign demon-gods on the
souls of their charges.
