Mongoose
Publishing is adept at creating fascinating games that vividly recreate settings that stimulate our imagination - and
allow us to maximally engage those settings through structured play.
For anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the
myth, legend and history of the Greco-Egyptian world, there is OGL Ancients.
Besides Greeks and Egyptians (of which
there are many social classes and professional sub-divisions), you can also play a number of people whose fates were intertwined
with these great powers: Assyrians, Scythians, Persians, Nubians, Phoenicians and Hittites, for example.
You can run
a mythical campaign (as we are currently doing in the RPG club), create a purely historical setting, or anything in between.
Rather than
setting sail with Jason on the Argonaut expedition, you can choose to experience the Peloponnesian War or recreate your favorite
scenarios from current mythic entertainments. I have even used this system with great success as a supplement to my library-based
Conan RPG campaigns.
OGL Ancients is a complete and self-contained product. The game mechanics are comprehensive and easy
to understand. The ancient world is physically, socially and spiritually translated into a fun and usable system of rules.
There are many new heroic Skills, mythical Magic, clever Items of Artifice and a legendary Bestiary.
As an OGL
game, it is compatible with Dungeons & Dragons and all other d20 systems - allowing for countless creative permutations.
OGL Ancients
will proudly grace my bookshelf and is unlikely to gather any dust (rather, I will have to be very careful not to wear it
out from constant usage). This tome earns Mongoose a proud place in my personal Hall of Heroes.
