Okay, I admit it. Although I was eagerly looking forward to the release of this product, my anticipation was mixed with dread. After all, this was Conan, one of the primary icons that has inspired, sustained and guided my life.

The tome was heavy, the cover painting superb: Conan and his blonde companion, astride a pile of bodies, swords in hand and ready for adventure.

I opened the book... and was totally blown away. I remain impressed, even after many readings.

Aside from character creation, game mechanics and campaign information, there is a Hyborian Age overview, a map, Gazeteer and bestiary as well as chapters on combat, sorcery and religion in the age of Conan - everything you need to to begin adventuring right away. There are also modifications to the d20 rules to allow for a truer immersion into this unique archaic setting.

Mongoose had developed a product with appeal to a wide spectrum of Conan fans, from R.E.Howard purists to Arnold movie buffs. And it is true to the spirit of Sword & Sorcery literature, a far grander accomplishment!

Note: A revised, Atlantean Edition of 'Conan: The Roleplaying Game' followed the first run.
