Some of the activities for Bat Fest 2008 included
storytime, open Q&A, games, book givaways, and prizes. All the themes were bat related, of course - even the pumpkin
muffins had bat picks!
Bat Match! The kids match the felt bats with Meet Your Neighbors
Hand-made life sized Pennsylvanian bats
Our interactive children's game, Bat Match, used the life-sized
felt Pennsylvanian bats. The children were each given one of the felt bats and asked to match it against the description
on the Meet Your Neighbors display board. This was an excellent opportunity for everyone to see just how big the bats
actually are. Almost everyone unfamiliar with bats thought they would be much larger!
Q&A with Muninn
Muninn talks about the Hoary Bat
Everyone got to pick Muninn's brains about bats after the discussion.
Those who wanted to troubleshoot bat house plans were given information on a) they had a suitable place to build one and b)
the actual bat house designs. Also, on each of the tables, we had information pamphletes from the three leading bat
conservation organizations. Everyone took media from the tables so that they could visit and/or join these organizations.
Even people who had unsuitable habitats for a bat house liked the idea of adopting a bat or donating to bat conservation.
Free bat books at our Giveaway Table.
"Batgirl" (AKA Jennalea) read Stellaluna to the children.
Hercules Invictus supports literacy programs
and we continued this even in our environmental outreach. At Bat Fest 2008, "Batgirl" and Muninn read bat
stories to the kids and we gave away every single one of our donated books from Book Mooch. We also had new copies of
Stellaluna and Silverwing on our Prize Table and these were among the first to go!
